Tell me about yourself!
My name is Roanan and I was born and raised in Denver, Colorado. I still live in this amazing city, partly because my family is here! They instilled a love of travel in me and gave me many opportunities to see the world. Their encouragement led me to Sheenco, where I have been a Luxury Travel Specialist since March. I am so excited to help others with their travels!
What is one unforgettable travel experience you have had in Europe?
One of my most memorable travel experiences happened on the way to my semester abroad in Prague. My friend and I had a 48-hour layover in London, and we made it our mission to see as much as possible in that short time. We spent our days exploring the city’s rich history—visiting Buckingham Palace, walking along the Thames, touring the Tower of London, and spending time in the British Museum. We even fit in a ride on the London Eye, taking in the city from above as the sun began to set.
The trip took an unexpected turn when we missed our train to the airport. With time quickly running out, we had to rely on three different types of transportation—part subway, part bus, and finally a cab—to get there just in time. It was a stressful moment, but also a reminder of how unpredictable travel can be, and how important it is to stay adaptable. That short but intense stop in London left a lasting impression and deepened my appreciation for the history and energy of the U.K. It was undoubtedly my favorite experience of college.
What is your favorite way to spend your free time?
Baking bread from scratch is one of my favorite ways to spend my free time. My love for it began when I worked as a baker for three years in Denver. What started as just a job quickly became something much more meaningful. I especially loved the sense of community—getting to know the regulars who stopped by each day, remembering their favorite loaves, and seeing familiar faces light up when they spotted fresh bread coming out of the oven.
Now, even outside the bakery, baking has remained a constant for me. There’s something really satisfying about the process—from mixing and kneading to the smell of a loaf baking in the oven. It brings me a sense of calm and it always reminds me of that special connection food can create between people.
What is the most memorable dish you have had while traveling?
One of the most memorable dishes I’ve ever had was during a high school service trip to Cambodia. One evening, our group was eating at a local restaurant when a particularly tasty dish was brought to the table. Everyone was enjoying it—it was crispy, savory, and full of flavor. It wasn’t until we were nearly finished that our teachers let us in on the secret: we had just eaten fried tarantula.
Since then, I’ve adopted a personal policy to never judge food before trying it. It’s made my travels so much richer—allowing me to connect more deeply with different cultures and discover incredible dishes I might have otherwise passed by. That tarantula ended up being more impactful than my teachers intended.
What is your best tip for traveling abroad?
My best tip for traveling abroad is to truly immerse yourself in the local culture. It’s one thing to see the sights—but it’s something entirely different to experience a place the way locals do. That means slowing down, trying the regional food, learning a few phrases of the slang, listening to the stories, and stepping off the tourist path.
That’s one of the things I love most about Sheenco. The experiences are so thoughtfully curated and authentic that it’s not uncommon for travelers to be mistaken for locals. Whether it’s staying in a charming countryside manor, sharing a pint with a local, or chatting with your chauffeur who knows the area’s history by heart, you begin to feel like you truly belong there. For me, that feeling—of being part of the place rather than just passing through—is what makes travel so meaningful.
