Our commitment
At Sheenco Travel, we believe luxury travel should be thoughtful, respectful, and delivered with integrity. We are committed to reducing the environmental impact of our operations, supporting local communities, and continuously improving how we design and deliver travel experiences.
Sustainability is a journey. We don’t claim to be perfect—but we do commit to practical action, honest communication, and measurable progress over time.
What sustainability means to us
We define sustainability as balancing environmental, social, and economic considerations in a way that supports:
-
the long-term wellbeing of destinations and local communities
-
meaningful local employment and ethical working practices
-
high-quality guest experiences delivered responsibly
How we operate responsibly
1) Digital-first & low-footprint operations
We operate a virtual model, which significantly reduces our office footprint and commuting emissions. We also operate paperless by default, providing itineraries and key documents electronically.
2) Energy awareness
We promote energy-efficient working practices across our team and contractors and encourage responsible energy use in day-to-day operations.
3) Waste reduction
We actively minimise waste through:
-
digital documentation and cloud storage
-
reduced printing and physical storage
-
promoting reduce/reuse/recycle practices internally and with suppliers where feasible
We aim to minimise single-use items within our own operations and encourage partners and guests to do the same, while recognising that some elements of travel supply chains are outside our direct control.
4) Responsible procurement
Where possible and appropriate, we prioritise purchasing choices that:
-
reduce waste and unnecessary materials
-
support reputable suppliers with responsible practices
-
favour local and regionally based services and products
How we design trips responsibly
Sustainability isn’t only operational—it’s also built into trip design.
1) Thoughtful routing and “slower travel”
When it suits a guest’s preferences and the experience, we design itineraries that:
-
reduce unnecessary transfers and backtracking
-
avoid excessive one-night stays where practical
-
consider rail and ground-based touring options where they enhance the journey
2) Local value and positive impact
We work with local guides, drivers, and destination partners wherever possible and appropriate, supporting local employment and delivering more authentic experiences.
3) Guest guidance
We provide practical pre-travel guidance to help guests make responsible choices on the ground—without compromising comfort. This can include local etiquette, nature/heritage care, and simple ways to reduce waste while travelling.
Working with trusted partners
We aim to work with suppliers and partners who share our commitment to quality, integrity, and responsible practices. While sustainability standards vary across the travel industry, we prioritise partners who demonstrate efforts in areas such as:
-
waste reduction and recycling practices
-
energy awareness and responsible resource use
-
fair working conditions and community engagement
We view supplier sustainability as an ongoing conversation and an area where we want to keep strengthening our assessment process as we grow.
Community support
Where we can, we support Irish community initiatives through donations and fundraising, including contributions via charity auctions and local rescue initiatives. Some community efforts are led personally by our founder and supported by Sheenco contributions.
Carbon and continuous improvement
We believe the first step is always to reduce impact where possible. We continue to evaluate additional initiatives—such as supporting verified conservation and restoration work—once we have clearer baselines and a framework that ensures transparency and genuine impact.
We review this policy regularly and continue to build more structure into how we measure progress, assess partners, and communicate improvements.
Honest communication
We are mindful of greenwashing and commit to communicating responsibly:
-
We will not overstate our impact.
-
We will share what we do today and what we are working toward.
-
We will improve our approach over time through practical goals and regular review.
Policy review
This policy is reviewed annually and updated as our business evolves, our destinations expand, and industry best practice progresses.
