Tell me about yourself
I grew up in a rural part of Dublin, where I was lucky to be close to the hustle and bustle of the city but also surrounded by nature. My parents came from the south of Ireland, Cork and Kerry, so we spent a lot of our childhood bundled in a car driving throughout the country and visiting the south coast! I have had a varied working career, including studying and teaching classical music for a number of years, followed by eight years working within the hospitality industry and have always been most passionate about connecting with people through my work. I have a huge love for travel, both internationally and locally, so when moving careers this year, I knew Sheenco Travel was the perfect place for me!
What’s your favorite place in Ireland?
My favourite place to visit in Ireland is Dingle, in county Kerry, a small port town on the southwest of Ireland. To me it showcases many of the aspects that make Ireland so special; breathtaking scenery, colourful characters, a strong traditional music history and of course, lots of pubs! My favourite spot in the area is Minard Beach, known locally as Beal Na gCloch (Mouth of Stones), a naturally formed storm beach about fifteen minutes outside of the town. You could spend a peaceful hour watching the waves and listening to the unique sound of the rounded, smoothed stones reverberating from one another.
What do you do outside of work?
Naturally, I love to travel abroad, but equally love exploring Ireland, visiting coastal parts of the country in my spare time, usually with my little dog Pierre! I love kayaking and sea swimming, there’s nothing quite like the shock of jumping into the Irish Sea, and thankfully we are blessed with some amazing beaches and bodies of water in Ireland.
I’ve been passionate about all things music since I was a child, I love going to watch and listen to live music, and enjoy playing a number of instruments in my free time, and I am always the first to start a sing-song at a party or family gathering!
What was a stand-out holiday for you?
In 2023, I left Ireland and spent just under a year abroad, visiting 15 countries throughout Europe! I spent the majority of my time in Budapest, the capital city of Hungary, which now has a special place in my heart. It is a city steeped in history, stunning architecture, great food and lots of culture! The best part about living abroad was having friends and family visit and tour-guiding them around for a weekend showing them all of my favourite spots!
Throughout the year I visited some amazing countries, another stand-out was probably Bosnia and Herzegovina, visiting and swimming within the stunning Kravice Waterfalls was something I had on my bucket list and was delighted to finally do!
